| The castle is not a copy of an existing castle in Germany. But it has the typical characteristics of a castle in the 14th century , the prime time of the building of castles in Germany. In detail these are the highest tower or keep , which was a lookout tower , a defence tower and also the last shelter of the inhabitants. The big house , the Palas , with its large windows shows the transition to the gothic type of construction. Two towers with big gates and a drawbridge secure the entrance of the castle. A wall and a covered parapet walk protect the knights against the attacks of the enemies. |

The building of castles in Germany began with forti- fications in the plains in the 9th century. From the 10th century the builders discovered the steep hills as ideal places for their castles. They were be able to watch the surroundings and to see the enemies earlier. Digging ditches , leveling the top of the hill and cutting the woods delivered building materials , too. |
|
In reality this castle was not built at once in this size. At first was the keep and
some small houses , the upper gate tower and a wall. Later a house was rebuilt
to the Palas . Stables , buildings , the lower gate tower and the court- yard were added. The upper gater tower was rebuilt and in the upper floor a chapel was intalled. The wall was completed with a covered parapet walk and loopholes. |
