Lack Of Sleep And Obesity

Posted on February 11, 2009 by Krissy

What is the connection between lack of sleep and obesity. The recommended amount of sleep per night is 7 to 9 hours; however, most Americans average somewhere around six hours. Researchers found that the further away one is from getting the recommended hours of sleep, the higher their risk of obesity is. What is the scientific basis of sleep debt leading to obesity. Clinical Trials Offer Hope For Parkinson S Patients

More than six million people worldwide, including one million in the United States, live with Parkinson s disease-a chronic, degenerative, neurological disorder that is characterized by symptoms that typically progress from mild tremors to significant physical incapacitation. Despite modest advances in pharmaceutical and surgical therapies, there is no known cure for Parkinson s. The best hope for finding one, say experts in the field, is through clinical trials. Even though almost all more than 96 percent of the physicians in the United States who treat people with Parkinson s disease agree that clinical trials are necessary to find better treatments for the disease, the majority of physicians have never referred a patient to a clinical trial. These are among the highlights of a recent survey commissioned by Advancing Parkinson s Therapies APT , a collaborative effort spearheaded by leading Parkinson s organizations. The survey also found that, among Parkinson s patients, 40 percent cite support groups and 27 percent cite other people with the disease as the most common sources of information about clinical...

When a person sleeps, the muscles not in use begin to relax and the airways will narrow. Snoring occurs when the air is being pushed through a person s airway. Depending on how forceful the air is being pushed, the loudness of the snore will vary. Men are often louder than women because their necks are generally larger. It is also believed that a hormone produced by women, known as progesterone, works to prevent or significantly reduce instances of snoring. There are many different causes that could lead to snoring. For example, if a person suffers from allergies that could clog the airways or takes medications that dry up the nasal cavities, they may suffer from...
