Increasing Awareness To Achieve Personal Goals And Objectives - 1

One of the problems of the modern Western way of life is what many describe as the pace of life. Personally, I think that pace is a misnomer in most cases. Very few people actually have a fast pace of life. For maybe a few top politicians, business men and celebrities, a fast pace of life may be a reality. For millions of ordinary people, though, it is not so much pace as a repetitive daily grind. The daily grind of getting up early, travelling to work, spending all day doing a job they mostly do not really like, travelling home, getting the evening meal and collapsing in front of the television; that is more the reality for millions of ordinary people. It is as if they get up in the morning, get sucked into a vortex over which they have no control, and then get dropped out of the vortex onto the tv couch, weary and unfulfilled. Such a description is, of course, a simplification, but it does have a strong tinge of reality. It is not aptly described as a fast pace of life. It is more a repetitive form of life over which the person has little control for much, or even all, the day. Due to the lack of control of the individual, there is a tendency for...

Arachnophobia And Other Fears

We had a little excitement this morning at home. My wife came out of the bathroom and said, quite calmly, Ed, there s a big black spider in the bathtub. Since I was watching my daughter, Ella, at the time, I carried her in there to investigate. I was a bit surprised that my wife did not call it a Brown Recluse. That s our running joke. She grew up in Brown Recluse territory, and so whenever she sees a brownish spider she says Ed, I just saw a Brown Recluse. I gently remind her that the Brown Recluse does not live in Northern California as I gather up the culprit and take it outside. When Ella and I looked in the tub, I could understand why Melissa had not called it a Brown Recluse. This spider was a deep shiny black. I m usually pretty casual about spiders, knowing that the only dangerous spider in our area is the black widow, a spider I had never before seen. But the color of this one caused me to act with a bit more caution. And it was good that I did. When I gathered up the critter in a Tupperware bowl, I could see, through the translucent plastic, a distinctive red hourglass on the belly. Here was my first Black Widow. Needless to say, my wife did...

Asthma: Blocked Nose, Post Nasal Drip, Itchy Nose Or Eyes

There is only one way to get asthma or a blocked nose and that is because you are breathing like an elephant. You are not an elephant, and your body will try to stop you from breathing so much. Your nose may block up, and make your lungs get wheezy, and you may feel stuff in your lungs and want to cough. If your child nose becomes completely blocked, then the Steps exercise should be done until it is clear enough to breathe through. Usually only one set is needed. The key is to ensure that breathing is only through the nose after the steps like a mouse . If the breathing is elephant-like the nose will just block up again. If it does, then repeat the steps. If it is only partially blocked, then ask the child to just breath like a mouse, and try to make it clear. With practice they will soon be able to unblock nose with just breathing. If the symptoms of asthma occur, tightness, wheeze or cough occur remember the elephant and the mouse. point to nose. If your child begins to cough then you must teach them how to cough through their nose. Have a little practice with them. When they feel a tickle in their throat, instead of coughing with their mouth, they...

How Do We Make The Perfect Coffee

Drive down just about any street in the United States and you will spot people holding coffee cups walking into their place of employment or just on a lazy morning stroll. With specialty coffee shops strategically tucked in our business districts, one would think coffee has always been in the United States, but this ever growing trend is not an original American idea. It is believed that the first coffee trees were found in Ethiopia. Several urban legends surround the discovery of the coffee bean the most familiar being a farmer who watched his goats eating the beans, and out of curiosity, ingested one and was impressed with the surge of energy the bean produced - but cannot be substantiated. But what we do know is that coffee beans found its way through the Arabian Peninsula that led to Yemen and Arabia. Yemen was the first area to cultivate the coffee bean. From there, it made its way to Turkey, where coffee beans were first roasted and then crushed and boiled in water, producing a very primitive version of the coffee we drink today. Trade merchants brought coffee to Europe, and it quickly took off. Coffee houses popped up rampantly, and were the...
