The country to both pages of the lower Weichsel was until 1918 a province in the Kingdom of Prussia and up to the entry into force of the Versailler of peace on 10 January 1920 in the Free State Prussia likewise belonging to the German empire. In the west West-Prussia borders on Pommern, in the east on East-Prussia and in the south on floats. The landscape coined/shaped by the Weichsel, their flow in river Nogat and numerous other rivers and many seas. From southeast coming the Weichsel clears the way to the Baltic Sea past at Thorn, Kulm, Schwetz, Neuenburg, Mewe, Dirschau and Danzig. The current west Prussia flows through 232 kilometers. Its tributaries Brahe, Schwarzwasser, Montau, Ferse and Mottlau flow from the west, Drewenz and Ossa of the east coming into the Weichsel, the Liebe into the Nogat. In west the Weichsel been situated the Pommerellen those are appropriate about 2,500 square kilometers large Tucheler Heide and Kaschubische Schweiz with that for 331 meters high Turmberg between Berent and Karthaus. East the current is enough with the Kulmer Land, Pomesanien and Pogesanien the Prussian land back to almost at the Weichsel and Nogat near. Its highest collection is here with 197 meters the Butterberg near Elbing, close to the carbon elimination Haff. The Weichsel Nogat delta covers Werder between Danzig, Dirschau, Marienburg and Elbing. The country is up to 1.8 meters under the sea level.
 

With agreement of emperor and Pope began in early 13. century of duke Konrad von Masowien in the neighbouring Kulmer country called German Orden the establishment of the German Orden State of Prussia. Thus the Kulmer Land which was situated in later west Prussia became country the germ cell of the state. Enormous castles, numerous churches, city halls and other important buildings also still remind in 20. century to this special epoch in national history. After the medal rule the western Prussia country was starting from 1454/1466 to 1772 a staendestaat under the sovereignty of the crown Poland, in which the large cities Thorn, Elbing and Danzig took the position of city republics. Since 1772 -- Thorn and Danzig starting from 1793 -- this part of the Prussia country belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia. The reunification of the two 1466 separate old-Prussian regions was 1773 for king Friedrich II. - the large ones - the cause to lend the names west Prussia to the Western and East Prussia the eastern region. Marienwerder was seat of the Provinzialbehoerden for West Prussia, to which also the network district with bromine mountain belonged as capital. With education of the modern provinces 1815 became Danzig seat of the upper president and thus capital of West Prussia. Upper president of West Prussia, Theodor von Schoen, took over 1824 also the office of the upper president of the province East Prussia. Under Schoens line took place 1829 the union of the two provinces to the province Prussia in the kingdom of the same name. Königsberg remained capital of the province. The dissolution of the province Prussia occurred 1878. At the same time the province East Prussia with the capital Königsberg and the province West Prussia with the capital Danzig recreated...

The peace of Versailles the 1922 divided resolved province West Prussia, by which the capital Danzig received the status of a free city.

Apart from an intensive agriculture with a e.g. strongly minted sugar industry the country had substantial other industries. Shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, wood and tobacco processing became the far beyond province admit or attained even world validity.
