Scrap - various poems

Our American 'Georgy Girl' (actually her name is Georiganne Bone) wrote a poem for the Seekers, in which she integrated many associations with songs sung by them.

FOR THE SEEKERS

We've been to The Emerald City
and to The Shores Of Avalon.
We've met the Louisana Man
and Danny Boy, now gone.

We've traveled down a Future Road.
All Our Trials just slipped away.
We gave them to The Guiding Light
to keep for one more day.

We took A Closer Walk With Thee.
We weren't alone anymore.
We were happy and we were free.
The Circle Of Love had been restored.

We rocked and rolled to Morningtown
on a Rattler through the night.
We crossed the water, grown so wide;
A Dream In Our Pocket, held so tight.

We learned about the Australians
and the Matilda that you waltzed.
There was nothing in you we could see
that was pretentious or even false.

We believe you are Our Spirit,
and we're still Devoted To You.
We know inside you're Movin' On,
yet sad to bid adieu.

We gazed at The Colours of your life,
knowing The Last Thing On Your Mind
was not to leave us here again
nor to try to be unkind.

We had A World Of Our Own
that no one else could share.
We'll Never Find Another You.
You know we'll always care.

So Look To The Sky, our friends,
for these were all your songs.
It's Hard To Leave, and so it is
that The Carnival is gone.

Liberty was taken with titles and lyrics and remains the property of those who wrote them

There is another real poet living in Liverpool, who seems to be a descendant of the "Shakespeare-Clan". His name is Ken Johnson and he made the following "ode" to the Surfin' Seekers.

Our Finnish member Matti Kumpalainen found the following Finnish poem. Guess what it is!  ;-)

EN LÖYDÄ KETÄÄN VERTAISTASI

Kaunis maa on jossain,
se maa on toiveiden,
ja sen löydän kerran
sun kanssas kulkien.
Ja kun löydämme sen, toivon
sun jäävän luoksein mun.
Enhän löydä ketään vertaistasi sun.

Koittaa aika onnen,
niin aina kerrotaan.
Sinä kuulut mulle
nyt näin ja ainiaan.
Vaikka etsisin mä kauan
ja kautta maailman,
en mä löytäis ketään vertaistasi sun.

Nyt on matkaa paljon,
siis luokseni jää.
Sä voit tietäni pitkää keventää,
keventää.

Vaikka rikkautta saisin,
mä välittäisi en.
Menettää sen mä voisin
ja olla iloinen.
Mutta sun jos menettäisin,
en tietäis, mitä teen,
kun en löytäis ketään vertaistasi sun.

Music: Tom Springfield
Finnish lyrics: Saukki
Arranged by: Jörgen Petersen

Released in 1965 on the PSO label

It is the lyrics of 'I'll never find another you, so here's your chance to learn some Finnish. ;-)
