The Seekers started their recording career in Australia back in the early 1960s by singing mainly folk based music, very much influenced by American Groups like the Weavers or Peter, Paul & Mary.
Then, after their famous boat trip to
England, they met Tom Springfield who introduced them to his compositons in a folk based
style. This finally led to their extremely successful cooperation for many songs,
which started with "I'll never find another you" and had all the well
known successors.
But also from the very beginning especially Bruce contributed his own works to the group's
repertoire. During the days of the album "SEEKERS SEEN IN GREEN" Judith and
Keith joined him and that album included the biggest number of own songs in 60s. Their
record of the 90s, 'Future Road', is even showing more or less exclusively material 'Made
by the Seekers'.
Bruce Woodley once said in an interview
'........there are certain ingredients to the songs of the Seekers, ...... they are easy
to understand, optimistic and have invariably strong melodies .......'
Anybody knowing and loving the music of these four Australians will absolutely agree to
this. Hearing them, you can't resist to sing along, their lyrics are positive without
being 'soapy'. Just happy music, ideal as a 'mental power station' in the ups and downs of
life.
We, the members of the SURFIN' SEEKERS share this love to their music.
This page is dedicated to the fine work of Tom Springfield and the four Seekers as songwriters by showing some gemstones as examples:
Jens Koch from Denmark is giving you a much better insight view of the songs and their lyrics. So visit his homepage.
