What has happened?

On February 9th, 1999 Eva Hahn sent an article entitled
"Deutsche Bohemistik - von außen gesehen" to the editors
of OSTEUROPA: Zeitschrift für Gegenwartsfragen des Ostens
(ed. by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde).

The issue 4/1999 containing this contribution to a
discussion about the situation of Eastern European studies
in Germany which has been taking place in OSTEUROPA for
several months was published on April 2nd, 1999.

On April 26th, 1999 Eva Hahn got a letter from Ferdinand
Seibt announcing her dismissal because of the the above
mentioned article in which Eva Hahn called for a change
of perspectives and an methodical debate within the
German Bohemistik (read: Collegium Carolinum, Munich).

On June 1st, 1999 OSTEUROPA (6/1999) published a reply of
Ferdinand Seibt which reads more like a personal answer
from somebody in a huff than like a contribution to an
academic debate. The text doesn't mention the dismissal
of Eva Hahn at all, but presents her as follows:

"Frau Hahn ist seit siebzehn Jahren Mitarbeiterin eines
'Forschungsinstituts für Kultur und Geschichte der
böhmischen Länder' in München mit dem Traditionsnamen
Collegium Carolinum und seit mehr als zehn Jahren
Redakteurin der Zeitschrift 'Bohemia'."

The author of these words had fired Eva Hahn weeks before!
